The short answer

n8n Cloud starts at about $20 a month (billed annually, about $24 billed monthly) for 2,500 workflow executions. Pro is about $50 a month (about $60 monthly) for 10,000 executions. Business, at about $800 a month billed annually, is a self-hosted license with 40,000 executions. Enterprise is quoted by n8n's sales team. The Community edition is free to self-host; you pay for the server and the time to run it.

Monthly billing costs more than annual billing on the paid plans. Starter and Pro allow unlimited active workflows; the main limits are executions and how many can run at the same time.

How n8n counts an execution

This is the most important detail. n8n counts one execution per run of a whole workflow, no matter how many steps it has or how much data passes through it. A 3-step workflow and a 30-step workflow each cost one execution per run.

That is why n8n is often cheaper than tools that bill per step. Zapier bills per task (each action), and Make bills per operation or credit (each module). For long, multi-step workflows, the difference adds up fast. See n8n vs Zapier vs Make for the full comparison.

Estimate your n8n bill

  1. List each workflow and how often it runs: per new lead, per order, every hour, once a day.
  2. Multiply to get runs per month. A workflow that runs every 15 minutes is about 2,900 runs a month by itself.
  3. Add them up and pick the plan whose execution allowance covers the total with room to grow.
  4. Watch scheduled workflows. A check that runs every minute is about 43,000 executions a month, which pushes you into self-hosting or a higher plan. Running it every 5 or 15 minutes is usually enough.

What self-hosting n8n really costs

The Community edition is free to use, but it is not free to run:

Self-hosting makes sense at high volume, when data must stay on your own servers, or when you already run servers. For a handful of workflows, n8n Cloud Starter or Pro is usually simpler.

Cloud or self-hosted: a quick decision guide

Is n8n the cheapest option for you?

At high volume and with long workflows, n8n usually wins on cost. For a few simple automations set up by a non-technical team, Zapier or Make can still be the easier choice. FAQs

Quick answers

As commonly reported on 4 November 2026: Starter about $20 a month and Pro about $50 a month on n8n Cloud (billed annually), Business about $800 a month as a self-hosted license, Enterprise by quote. The Community edition is free to self-host.

The self-hosted Community edition is free to use under n8n's fair-code license. You still pay for the server, backups and the time to maintain it. n8n Cloud is a paid subscription.

One run of a whole workflow, regardless of how many steps it has or how much data it processes.

It depends on the plan. Check n8n's pricing page for current limits and overage rules; scheduling frequent workflows less often is the easiest way to stay inside a plan.

For multi-step or high-volume workflows, usually yes, because n8n counts a whole run as one execution while Zapier counts every task. For a few simple automations, the difference is small.
